Friday 26 January – As promised in the trail notes, the tramp from Mid Wairoa to Tarn Hut was a steep climb up through forest, along ridges and then another less steep climb.

Tarn Hut is a slight detour from the main track, set at the forest edge of a large clearing and a 2 minute walk from a large tarn.
