Sunday 28 January – Super chill-axed day with the morning in bed and afternoon tramping to Rintoul Hut.

Tohia and I were preparing for a zero day waiting out the rain. Imagine our delight when the sun came out around 11am and dried out all the rain!

We set off from Tarn Hut around midday.

The track was in the bush for most of the way. We walked the bush-clad ridge to an area below Purple Top
(1562m), the only significant open section on the route. It involved walking over boulder fields and lots of rests to admire the views.

We then walked back into the bush along the ridgeline to Rintoul Hut.

It was a lovely sunny evening and we joined other trampers for dinner on the picnic table.

After dinner we cleared out the gutters for the two water tanks. Tohia and I held the ladder while a brave tramper scooped the sludge out of the gutters.

Hopefully next time it rains the water will be able to flow into the tanks.
