Tuesday 6 February – And just like that I am boarding the Cook Strait ferry bound for Wellington.

My left knee decided on a water taxi rather than walking.

This meant a very relaxed day at Punga Cove and a cruise through the sounds back to Picton.

I have enjoyed my Te Araroa – Te Waipounamu adventure.

My dear Girl What an achievement!! You have exceeded all expectations I think (both yours and maybe mine) You have STUCK to your resolve and completed a tremendous walk covering some of the prettiest and most spectacular scenery anywhere in the world without breaking a leg at the most inconvenient time. You must be delighted for yourself – come on admit it!! All the hardships have dissipated into mere aches and pains for a second, but you will never forget the strains and stress of various sections of your travels, but that’s not a bad thing when you consider the exhilaration of the achievement itself. Again, WELL DONE!!! and for goodness sake, don’t get seasick on the way home!! I hope those in Wellington waiting for your arrival appreciate your efforts and place you on that tremendous pedestal that seems to follow such achievements..I will leave you to your loved ones now so you can revel in the adulations – don’t be bashful, soak it all up!! Will leave you now to contemplate and enjoy the company of family. Where to next?

And bye the way, thank you for your thoughtful birthday card. Very kind of you to remember that in the midst of everything else you must be thinking about at the moment. Much appreciated. Lots of love Dorothy
